Midwest Chapter Member to Bike from Chicago to Boston
Updated On: Feb 26, 2014
Dan DeGryse, a Chicago firefighter, LAP Midwest Chapter member, and member of IAFF Local 2 will ride a bike from Chicago’s Wrigley Field to Boston’s Fenway Park. Participants will travel over 1,000 miles in 12 days.
The Chicago Fire Department’s Ignite the Spirit Fund, in conjunction with the Henry Shueler 41 and 9 Foundation, hopes to raise $100,000 with $25,000 earmarked for the Ignite the Spirit Fund and $75,000 to the Henry Shueler 41 and 9 Foundation. The Fund assists CFD families in need and the Foundation supports cancer cure research.
This is not the first fundraising bike ride for DeGryse. Three years ago he rode 419 miles in 5 days for pediatric cancer. However, this new challenge more than doubles the time and distance involved and Dan is seeking financial support in his endeavor. “As a rider, we have been asked to raise $1500 each for the cause. As I have said over the years, people really don't care until it affects them. Well, cancer affected me and my family, and because of that I would like to raise much more than the $1500. So, whether you are a friend, coworker, family, referral source or someone I think will donate a lot of money (lol), please see the attached letters for more information and ways to help fight cancer” said DeGryse. “Whether it be $100 dollars or $5 dollars, please understand any amount will help. We begin our bike ride May 26th so you have time, but there is no time like the present. You can send donations in many ways as you will see in the attachments. However, you can send it to me at 7359 N Osceola Chicago Illinois 60631 if you do not have a pay pal account. Thanks for your time and support” he said.
“One of our own LAP members is taking on a monumental task, a bike ride from Chicago to Boston. This is a charity event with proceeds used to fight against cancer. Please consider supporting Dan, either as an individual or through your chapter or both” said Ken Morse, LAP Chairperson.
