    Bill Troy, New York City Chapter, Passed Away on June 11

    We regretfully announce that long-time LAP member Bill Troy passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Bill was a member of the LAP New York City Chapter, and he served as a past LAP National Vice Chair. He was also a member of the Yonkers Federation of Teachers and Local 1-2 of the Utility Workers of America, where he was employed by Con Edison.

    Certification Bridge Program with NAADAC

    Labor Assistance Professionals (LAP) and National Association of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Counselors (NAADAC) partnered to develop a streamlined process for LAP members with the LAP-C credential to also obtain the National Certification Commission for Addiction Professionals (NCC AP) credentials through a bridge process.

    This relationship is in line with the LAP goals of:

    Ensuring the availability of quality and effective chemical dependency and mental health treatment services for workers and their families by promoting the value and efficacy of such services to those within the workplace.

    Enhancing the competency and availability of Labor Assistance Professionals and Programs through networking opportunities, continuing education, and professional certification.

    Increasing the recognition of the key role Labor Assistance Professionals have in advancing workplace wellness and safety by serving as the voice of EAP with a specialized sensitivity to organized labor within the behavioral health care industry.

    Mickey Diamond was a member of the LAP New York City chapter and an early pioneer in the development of union-based occupational alcohol programs in the workplace. The LAP organization honors him each year with a presentation of the "Mickey Diamond" award to a deserving LAP member at the summer conference.

    "Mickey Diamond was not only a leader, but an innovator in the world of alcohol treatment programs in the workplace. In this interview he gives the viewer a small glimpse of his life story and into what it was like to be in the field in the early years of Employee Assistance Programs.
